Update: Adjusted code per dbVisualizer docs. While integers and dates are handled cleanly, you want to be sure to not have spaces around the value for string data. You can disable this behavior in the the Tool Properties dialog, in the Grid. Each column width is automatically resized to match the column width, including the column header, by default. Fiddling around a bit I found that this will work: $$, ' ', '') "VarcharValWithLeadingAndTrailingSpaces" To open the Data tab for a table: Locate the table in the Databases tab tree, Double-click the table node to open its Object View tab, Open the Data sub tab. Some of the parameters are in multiple places. I found a post ( ) describing how to do this, but it looks like some of the post got lost in a forum upgrade. Using an Oracle database (currently 18g) through dbVisualizer, I have SQL that has parameters peppered throughout. Since I finally found enough information to figure it out, and since I've never found this info on StackExchange, I'm asking and answering my own question in the hopes that others don't suffer needlessly as long as I have. Im sure many of the DbVisualizer functions are the same as those listed in the TSQL reference for SQL Server (because I imagine most are SQL Standard), but I dont believe all of them are. I have needed this functionality for about 3 years now. How can I declare variables in Oracle SQL through dbVisualizer as easily as I can in SQL Server using SSMS? I have also seen posts with accepted answers that just don't work (like Declare a variable in Oracle SQL to use in a query). I have read many posts regarding how to do this using PL/SQL or SQL*Plus (like ) that don't work for my environment. SELECT FROM SYSIBM.SYSCOPY WHERE TIMESTAMP > CURRENT TIMESTAMP - 7 DAYS Example 2: Insert a row into the INTRAY table. Example 1: Display information about the full image copies that were taken in the last week. In SQL Server, you can use the CONVERT function with the specified style: SQL Server : CONVERT (VARCHAR, CONVERT (DATE, GETDATE ()), 120). Select I don't see a way to do this in Oracle. To avoid misinterpretation of the time zone in this case, CURRENT TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE should be used. In DB2, you can use the CHAR function to convert a datetime value to string using the specified format, for example: DB2 : CHAR( CURRENTDATE, ISO). I've done this for decades in SQL Server. I want to use a text editor to enter my test values and put them all at the beginning of my code so I don't risk fat-fingering my SQL logic and so I can delete or comment out that section when I'm done testing. I don't want to use the interface dbVisualizer presents for entering them manually. The query I'm working with right now has 13 distinct parameter names with 56 total references in the code. Using an Oracle database (currently 18g) through dbVisualizer, I have SQL that has parameters peppered throughout. I have some standard values I use for testing.
